Film: Orange …… O range love story!
Composers: Harris/Jayraj
Overall album rating: 7.5/10
Another good clean album from one of the best composers from down south. Although there are hints of similar rhythms used in Ghajni and Gharshana, fresh lyrics from Vanamali et al. make this the best music by far of 2010. Credit goes to Bommarillu Bhasker for requesting such nice lyrics. And, no duets!
Songs (in the order of star rating)
1. Nenu Nuvantu (**** ½) 4.5
Sung by Naresh Iyer, Nadeesh
Certainly the best song of the album. Naresh Iyer was the ideal choice who delivered the song with the right emotion. However he does need to pronounce Telugu words in the correct way. Any new singer should check with the writer/lyricist if they are saying the words as it should be because a good word pronounced in the wrong way does not deliver the right meaning and if you are a new singer and want to make a mark for yourself this is very important that you get everything absolutely right. Saying ‘Abai’ for ‘Abbayi’ didn’t help. Hence 4.5 out of 5.
Highlight of the song: Intro to the song – very crisp.
2. Rooba Rooba (**** ½) 4.5
Sung by Shahil Hada, Chinmayi
This might come as a surprise but trust me listen to this song in good sound you will be blown away by the use of guitar strings (suggest bass boost selection in ipod/iphone). If you are a singer try the scale, it is high. A complete bass guitar based song and what a great rendition by Sahil Hada. Same chap who shot to fame by the song ‘Saawariyaan’, no wonder he is singing 5 songs in S L Bansali’s upcoming film ‘Guzaarish’. No place for unnecessary chorus otherwise this could have been straight 5.
Highlight of the song: Being a non-telugu singer Shahil delivers the song with amazing ease.
4. Ola Olalaa Ala (****) 4
Karunya, Ranina Reddy
A situational song similar to that of A.R Rahman’s ‘New York nagaram’. A simple and easy composition that reminds the great Micheal Jackson’s Billie Jean beat all through. This is like a piece of cake for Karunya who has excellent talent. Again, horrible rap by Ranina Reddy (apparently she is a good stage singer) and horribly pronounced intro don’t do it for me. Hence, 4.
Highlight of the song: Opera styled background chorus.
3. Chilipiga (****) 4
Karthik
Another strings based song delivered very nicely by Karthik. The charanam could have been handled slightly better as it is a difficult composition, once has to accept.
5. O Range (****) 4
Benny Dayal
A slightly beat based fast tempo-ed song that was included to balance the album probably more to do with the situation and for dance moves in the film. Nothing special but a catchy rhythm and slight Arabian style hymns.
6. Hello Rammante (****) 4
Vijay Prakash, Devan
I can see why Vijay Prakash was chosen to sing this song. This is a very difficult song for a normal singer. VP is a great singer with immense classical background (listen to Manmohini in Yuvvraaj) and has done the justice that was asked of him.
